Bill & Rick’s Excellent Podcast Dives Into Low End Theory – Episode 38

“Guitar is for the head, drums are for the chest,
but bass gets you in the groin.” ~ Suzi Quatro

Class is now in session. Please get comfortable and turn the volume up to 11, as the show is about to begin…

The guys take on the topic of “Favorite Bass Guitarists” this week, including some really awesome music to demonstrate why these particular low end players were chosen. Please not that Bill and Rick are attempting to distill the “best” players into a small list. The four musicians they selected move them in a way that other bass players do not.

The guys give a shout out to their guests on the previous episode, with Hope Madden and George Wolf being blamed for giving Rick the disco earworm from Saturday Night Fever. Everyone knows that he looks like a Grade A weirdo when he attempts to dance. It’s ugly!

With Bill being the resident bass player of the show, with Rick reprising his role as a bass guitar tech, diving into the low end brought a sparkle to the pair…

lookin’ ragged, talkin’ hard…

Music on this week’s episode:

  1. Rancid – Journey To The End Of East Bay
  2. Infectious Grooves – Feed The Monkey
  3. Hot Water Music – Drag My Body

“It’s really easy to play harmonics, anyone can do it. It’s another thing to be able to swing, to make to make a band swing, to create a groove. Harmonics ain’t everything. Being able to play harmonics certainly does not make you a good bass player. Cleverness is no substitute for true awareness.” ~ Jaco Pastorius
